General Statement of Job:
Unskilled heavy and light physical labor in a wide variety of activities such as: cutting grass, weeds, trees, and brush; cleaning drains and ditches; general building maintenance; moving, loading, and unloading materials, supplies, and equipment; assisting in the repair and construction of roadways, walkways, etc. Work is generally performed outdoors under varied weather conditions. Certain positions may require driving of a City vehicle.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities (This is descriptive, not restrictive as to all tasks included in this position):
SPECIFIC GENERAL LABORING DUTIES WILL VARY BY THE PARTICULAR VACANCY.

Communication Skills:
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving assignments and/or direction from supervisor.

Physical Requirements:
Tasks involve the regular, and at times sustained, performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderately heavy weight (up to 50 pounds).

Mental Involvement:
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving assignments and/or direction from supervisor.

Minimum Training and Experience Qualifications:
Requires nine months or more of experience in facility/grounds maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid Class D Louisiana driver’s license. NOTE: Applicants must submit: 1. copy of their high school diploma or equivalency diploma (GED) and 2. Louisiana driver’s license number for Class D license.

Interpersonal Relationship Skills:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines. The worker may be subject to danger or risk to a moderate degree.

Test Required:
COMPETITIVE - THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF A RATING OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE BASED ON THE INFORMATION SUPPLIED BY THE APPLICANT. NOTE: Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their work experience including a detailed description of their duties, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the approximate dates of employment. The information is subject to verification and the Civil Service Department which reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.

Salary Requirements:
$9.5851 PER HOUR / 40 HOURS PER WEEK
