General Statement of Job:
Under general supervision performs technical work in support of the operations of the Information Technology Department. Reports to the Director of Information Technology.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities (This is descriptive, not restrictive as to all tasks included in this position):
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains analog telephone equipment and analog telephone lines throughout the City. Works with and assists installation technicians from outside vendors to ensure all work completed per standards set by the contracts. Initiates and coordinates telephone, data, fiber, and coax wiring projects throughout City departments. Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains the time keeping equipment; instructs all departments on use of the system. Installs, programs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains network hardware and network infrastructure in main campus and outer City departments. Administers the City data backup system. Administers reporting software and tracking system. Maintains and repairs computers at fire stations and fire headquarters. Coordinates repairs, installations, and/or distribution of City radio equipment. Assists authorized fire department personnel in accessing data from portable devices. Programs cellular telephones to work with the City exchange mail system. Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains desktop computers or servers, laptops, wireless network adapter cards, network printers, copy machines, fax machines, scanners, desktop car readers, plotters, sign cutters, and any software required for end users to complete their job requirements. Diagnoses and corrects fuel shutdown issues on generators. Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as event logs, security logs, network traffic data, and backup logs. Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as specifications for specific projects and work orders for vendors. Refers to Internet, policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc. Operates a variety of vehicles, office equipment, and machinery such as automobile, bucket truck, network testing equipment, servers, switches, computers, copy machine, fax machine, etc. Uses a variety of tools such as network tool kit, line tracers, laptop with diagnostic software, drills, etc.; a variety of supplies such as network supplies, general office supplies, etc.; and a variety of computer software such as Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer, DameWare, Microsoft Excel, Packet Sniffers, etc. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals including Director, City department personnel, administration, consultants, vendors, and the general public. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Backs up other personnel in the department when they are absent. Performs related duties as required.

Communication Skills:
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving direction and instruction from supervisor. Includes the ability to provide instruction and guidance on technical computer program use to computer users in layman’s terms.

Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including various computer equipment, telephone, fax machine, etc. Must be able to exert up to forty pounds of force occasionally and/or up to twenty pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve lifting, walking or standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of twenty to forty pounds.

Mental Involvement:
Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Requires the ability to learn and understand relatively complex principles and techniques; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information.

Minimum Training and Experience Qualifications:
Current, permanent Civil Service status in the IT Department and significant experience in a lower IT class.

Interpersonal Relationship Skills:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency, unusual or dangerous situations, or in situations in which working speed and sustained attention are make or break aspects of the job.

RATING OF TRAINING AND EXPEERIENCE . . . . Weighted 100 %

Salary Requirements:
$22.55 PER HOUR / 35 HOURS PER WEEK
