General Statement of Job:
Under general supervision, performs skilled electrical maintenance and repair work in the maintenance of facilities and related equipment and systems for the Public Works Department. Work involves installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical fixtures, wiring, and lighting for all City buildings, gardens, signage, and outdoor venues managed by the Public Works Department. Team led by Electrician III. Reports to the Chief Electrician.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities (This is descriptive, not restrictive as to all tasks included in this position):
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs electrical building and grounds maintenance such as installing new fixtures; replacing bulbs and ballasts; replacing outlets; resetting breakers; checking air conditioning, etc. Troubleshoots and repairs lighting and electrical systems for various buildings, gardens, signage, and outdoor venues. Installs new electrical circuits. Performs construction site work including demolishing and remodeling electrical sites, installing electrical pipes, etc. Delivers, installs, disconnects, and removes temporary services and extension cords for public events. Assists Electrician II and Electrician III in the maintenance, installation, and repair of generators. Maintains shop and truck inventory, assists in ordering supplies, stocks shelves, pulls materials for jobs, etc. Provides assistance with special events such as setting up and cleaning up events, building specialized equipment for events, monitoring operations, etc. Uses a variety of tools such as hand tools, power tools, test equipment, ladders, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as junction boxes and covers, duplex receptacles, switches, light bulbs, electrical panels, general office supplies, etc. Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as work orders, verbal instructions, and e-mail. Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as daily log, work orders, work order requests, and supply requests. Refers to wiring schematics, technical drawings, National Electric Code, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, National Electrical Manufacturers Association, policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc. Operates a variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as pickup truck. Performs basic maintenance and inspection on assigned vehicles. Performs after hour call outs. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as coworkers, Electrician II and III, Chief Electrician, Public Works and City staff, and the general public. \\011 ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs related duties as required. Essential duty status position, will be required to report to work during emergency situations, including, but not limited to, city-wide declared emergencies.

Communication Skills:
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving information and instructions from supervisor.

Physical Requirements:
Requires medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, stretching or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis, or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Mental Involvement:
Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral, written, diagrammatic or schedule form. Requires the ability to learn and understand relatively complex principles and techniques; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information.

Minimum Training and Experience Qualifications:
Requires a high school diploma, GED, HiSet, or equivalent certification of competency and successful completion of an apprentice or equivalent training program in the electrical field plus one or more years of electrical maintenance and repair experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess a valid Louisiana Class D driver’s license.

Interpersonal Relationship Skills:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines. Worker may be subject to danger or risk to a moderate degree.

Salary Requirements:
$12.8260 PER HOUR / 40 HOURS PER WEEK
