General Statement of Job:
Under general supervision, performs administrative and clerical work in support of effective and efficient City operations. Work involves assisting in the administration of the City’s insurance programs; processing and monitoring health benefits for City’s employees and their dependents including employee health coverage, life coverage, prescription coverage, workman’s compensation coverage, short-term disability, long-term disability, and life insurance; and compiling monthly reports for the Director. Reports to the Assistant Director.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS\015\012\015\012Processors/Insurance perform a variety of work according to assigned work and/or supervisor. Duties may include the following:\015\012\015\012Prepares and submits necessary reports to the State of Louisiana in the areas of workman’s compensation.\015\012\015\012Enrolls new employees in healthcare programs; conducts orientation to explain benefits.\015\012\015\012Processes benefit inquiries and complaints to insure quick, equitable, and courteous resolutions.\015\012\015\012Serves as administrator of COBRA plan in accordance with federally mandated regulations.\015\012\015\012Compiles monthly reports of workman’s compensation, automobile incidents, and citizen claims of damage or injury.\015\012\015\012Processes disability claims.\015\012\015\012Maintains database information pertinent to the administration of insurance program.\015\012\015\012Coordinates charity fundraiser activities.\015\012\015\012Processes changes to employee health benefits during yearly open enrollment.\015\012\015\012Obtains Certificate of Insurance for special events held in the City of Kenner.\015\012\015\012Forwards claims to specified carriers.\015\012\015\012Processes public gathering applications.\015\012\015\012Processes and tallies monthly premium payments for invoices related to City benefits.\015\012\015\012Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as insurance applications, retirement applications, workman’s compensation claims, public gathering applications, and short-term disability.\015\012\015\012Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as accord forms, public gathering forms, workman’s compensation report, auto report, COBRA letter, etc.\015\012\015\012Refers to procedure manual, Internet, websites, policy and procedure manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc.\015\012\015\012Operates a variety of office equipment and machinery such as adding machine, copy machine, fax machine, computer, printer, etc.\015\012\015\012Uses a variety of tools such as standard office tools, etc.; a variety of supplies such as paper, writing instruments, staples, tape, general office supplies, etc.; and a variety of computer software such as Microsoft Office, Crystal Reports, Munis, Print Shop, etc.\015\012\015\012Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Assistant Director, Director, City employees, insurance companies, Police Department, and the general public.\015\012\015\012\015\012ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS\015\012\015\012Performs routine clerical tasks as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, sending and receiving faxes, entering and retrieving computer data, receiving and responding to e-mails and faxes, etc.\015\012\015\012Performs related duties as required.\015\012

Must by physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines and equipment, which includes a computer, typewriter, printer, telephone, copier, etc. Must be able to exert up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to five pounds.
