General Statement of Job:
Under regular supervision, performs skilled technical work in the fabrication and installation of street signs, instructional or directional signs, and other signs for City use. Work involves creating, installing, and repairing traffic signs throughout the City of Kenner. Reports to the Foreman.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities (This is descriptive, not restrictive as to all tasks included in this position):
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Installs, repairs, and removes new and old traffic signs. Performs the stripping of parkway, lots, streets, etc. Cleans and maintains traffic signs in the City. Makes traffic signs for inventory. Completes journal and reports of assignments. Installs temporary stop signs during emergencies. Sets up barricades during special events. Provides assistance with seasonal decorations. Receives and/or reviews various records and reports including work orders, list of complaints from Kenner Police Department, and verbal instructions from Foreman. Prepares and/or processes various records and reports including work orders, reports of problems, and verbal information. Refers to maps, policy and procedure manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc. Operates a variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as generators, truck, air compressor, etc. Uses a variety of tools such as power drill, sockets, weed eater, shovels, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as plastic materials, gas, graffiti spray, general office supplies, etc. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Foreman, coworkers, other City department employees, and the general public. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Responds to emergencies. Performs related duties as required. Essential duty status position, will be required to report to work during emergency situations, including, but not limited to, city-wide declared emergencies.

Communication Skills:
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving assignments and/or direction from supervisor.

Physical Requirements:
Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 60 pounds) and occasionally heavier objects and materials (up to 80 pounds).

Mental Involvement:
Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations. Requires the ability to learn and understand principles and techniques; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information.

Minimum Training and Experience Qualifications:
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by three to six months of experience in graphics and sign fabrication; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess and maintain a valid Louisiana Class - D license.

Interpersonal Relationship Skills:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines. The worker may be subject to danger or risk to a moderate degree.

Test Required:
The examination may consist of a written test, and/or a rating of training and experience. If used, the rating of training and experience will be based on information on file with the Civil Service Department. Thus, applicants must furnish a complete and accurate detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers, the dates of employment, and a photocopy of their high school (or equivalency diploma).

Salary Requirements:
$12.8260 PER HOUR / 40 HOURS PER WEEK
