General Statement of Job:
Under regular supervision, is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the general appearance and cleanliness of City facilities. Work involves keeping the assigned location clean; cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms, offices, hallways, meeting rooms, etc.; buffing and waxing floors; and maintaining areas for individuals with allergies. Reports to the assigned Foreman.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities (This is descriptive, not restrictive as to all tasks included in this position):
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Examines the facility upon entry at the beginning of a shift. Evaluates the extent of work needed; prioritizes work. Cleans the bathrooms, water fountains, meeting rooms, office, hallways, stairways, and entrances; ensures areas are maintained in a clean and sanitized manner. Dust mops floors; removes scuff marks off the floor. Sweeps, mops, waxes, and buffs floors. Wipes down the walls in the bathroom and other areas of facilities. Empties garbage cans. Patrols the grounds. Locks the facility when needed. Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as event papers, maintenance supplies, verbal instructions from supervisor, verbal input from the public, verbal requests, etc. Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as custodian supply list, leave request forms, call reports, etc. Refers to directions for cleaning supplies, labels, policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc. Operates a variety of equipment and machinery such as stripping machine, floor buffer, wet vac, vacuum, etc. Uses a variety of tools such as broom, mop, buckets, toilet brush, etc.; a variety of supplies such as stripping solution, wax, cleaning supplies, general office supplies, etc. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Foreman, coworkers, office personnel, and the general public. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Cleans other locations when needed. Picks up trash inside and outside of locations. Performs other related duties as required.

Communication Skills:
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving assignments and/or directions from supervisors.

Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate a vacuum cleaner, carpet cleaner, and a copier. Must be able to exert up to fifty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to twenty-five pounds of force frequently, and/or up to ten pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of ten to fifty pounds.

Mental Involvement:
Requires the ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in or from standardized situations.

Minimum Training and Experience Qualifications:
Requiresability to learn and utilize new skills in the area of custodial work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess a valid Louisiana State Driver�s License.

Interpersonal Relationship Skills:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. The worker needs to relate to people in situations involving more than giving or receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress when confronted with an emergency.

Salary Requirements:
$8.7750 PER HOUR / 40 HOURS PER WEEK
