General Statement of Job:
Under general supervision, provides leadership and direction of subordinate crewmembers in the Streets Division of the Public Works Department in maintenance of roadways. Work involves supervising assigned crews; assigning and scheduling work; completing work documentation; performing the work of the crew as needed; and training new employees. Reports to the Superintendent. . . . . . Requires current, permanent Civil Service status and three years of experience in roadway maintenance or construction. Must possess a valid Louisiana CDL Class A driver�s license.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities (This is descriptive, not restrictive as to all tasks included in this position):
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Coordinates with Superintendents to determine projects; maintains roadways of concrete and asphalt, curbs, and bridges; responds to road hazards. Supervises work crews; schedules job activities and functions; monitors subordinates� performance and attendance. Communicates safety procedures and expectations; inspects worksite and equipment; reports incidents. Inventories and orders supplies. Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as daily reports, work orders, and verbal instructions. Prepares and/or process various records and reports such as progress reports, inspection sheets, daily / weekly schedules, weekly and daily reports, inventory, annual leave schedules, accident reports, employee evaluations, FEMA documentation, etc. As necessary refers to instruction manuals, safety manuals, material safety data sheets, maps, employee policy manual, policy and procedure manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc. Supervises operation of dump truck, flatbed truck, bucket truck, bobcat, backhoe, excavator, bush hog, skid steer, bulldozer, excavator, curb dresser, etc. Operates and supervises operation of a variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as pickup truck, passenger van, lawn mower, chipper, air compressor, electric saws, drills, pumps, weed eater, jack hammer, etc. Uses and supervises use of a variety of tools such as shovel, rake, sledgehammer, hammer, cement trowel, saws,, etc.; a variety of supplies such as paper products, lumber, wood, metal sheeting, cement, concrete, sand, limestone, wood dunnage, lubricants, gases, general office supplies, etc. May serve as a laborer on the job sites. Performs minor maintenance work on vehicles including tire pressure, fluids, washing, etc. Operates computer and printer with a variety of computer software such as Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, etc. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Superintendent, subordinates, other City employees, and the general public; may interact with Administrators, Council members, and contractors. Works emergency stand-by duty on a rotating basis. Remains on call after work hours when required. Essential duty status position, will be required to report to work during emergency situations, including, but not limited to, city-wide declared emergencies. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs light filing and computer work. Assists other employees with completing paperwork and interpreting materials. Supervises employees from another division as directed by Superintendent. Trains new employees. May perform the shooting of elevations. Assists with setting up seasonal decorations, erecting barricades, chauffeuring individuals, etc. as required. Performs other related duties as required

Communication Skills:
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving assignments and/or directions to subordinates. Includes receiving assignments and/or directions from supervisors.

Physical Requirements:
Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 60 pounds) and occasionally heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).

Mental Involvement:
Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.

Minimum Training and Experience Qualifications:
Requires current, permanent Civil Service status and three years of experience in roadway maintenance or construction. Must possess a valid Louisiana CDL Class A driver�s license.

Interpersonal Relationship Skills:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. The worker needs to relate to people in situations involving more than giving or receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress when confronted with an emergency.

Salary Requirements:
$17.6884 PER HOUR / 40 HOURS PER WEEK
