General Statement of Job:
Under limited supervision, performs advanced work and provides leadership to subordinate crew members in the Street Lights Division of the Public Works Department in the skilled electrical maintenance and repair of facilities, equipment and systems of the Public Works Department. Reports to the Superintendent.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities (This is descriptive, not restrictive as to all tasks included in this position):
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Coordinates with Superintendents to determine projects; oversees installation, repairs, and maintenance to City street lights, poles, and various traffic signals; oversees the maintenance and repair of City building electrical needs; completes and closes work orders. Supervises work crews; schedules job activities and functions; monitors subordinates’ performance and attendance. Communicates safety procedures and expectations; inspects worksite and equipment; reports incidents. Performs professional electrical work; teaches, supervises, reviews, and oversees the work of crew members to ensure compliance with established codes. Oversees electrical supplies provided to special events. Performs street light surveys. Inventories and orders supplies; obtains repair quotes; oversees materials distribution. Reviews the work of electrical subcontractors. Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as faxes, work orders, quotation, verbal requests, and police call outs. Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as work orders, call out forms, street lighting survey, material quotes, and traffic signal forms. Refers to code books, work orders, spreadsheets, special event layout sheet, policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc. Supervises operation of bucket truck. Operates and supervises the operation of a variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as pickup truck, two-way radio, fax machine, telephone, copy machine, calculator, cell phone, etc. Operates computer and printer with a variety of computer software such as Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, etc. Uses a variety of tools such as voltage tester, multimeter, amprobe, hammer, drill etc.; and a variety of supplies such as electrical parts, electrical supplies, general office supplies, etc. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Superintendent, subordinates, subcontractors, electrical companies, office personnel, and the general public. Works emergency stand-by duty. \011 Essential duty status position, will be required to report to work during emergency situations, including, but not limited to, city-wide declared emergencies. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs light filing and clerical support work. Performs related duties as required.

Communication Skills:
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving assignments and instructions and receiving information and instructions from supervisor.

Physical Requirements:
Requires medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, stretching or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis, or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Mental Involvement:
Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral, written, diagrammatic or schedule form. Requires the ability to learn and understand relatively complex principles and techniques; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information.

Minimum Training and Experience Qualifications:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalency certificate supplemented by three or more years of electrical maintenance and repair experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.. Must possess a current Class A / Master Electrician license issued by Jefferson Parish or a current Electrical Work Statewide license issued by the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors. Required to obtain City of Kenner Electrical License upon employment. Must possess a valid Louisiana Class A commercial driver’s license.

Interpersonal Relationship Skills:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines. Worker may be subject to danger or risk to a moderate degree.

$21.7394 PER HOUR / 40 HOURS PER WEEk
