General Statement of Job:
Under regular supervision, performs clerical work associated with greeting visitors, answering incoming telephone calls, providing information, typing documents, and processing documentation. Reports to the Recreation Administrative Coordinators. This is a part-time position 3:30 to 7:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities (This is descriptive, not restrictive as to all tasks included in this position):
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Answers the switchboard calls; direct calls to appropriate departments. Provides telephone numbers for various services provided in the City by other businesses such as playing district, playground location, and services/programs that department provides. Greets and directs the public to proper personnel that handle the program, ensures visitors are directed to the proper individuals that handle rentals at various facilities. Directs visitors to other facilities that are under the direction of the department. Refers to policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, departmental regulations, laws and various policies administered by the City of Kenner Operates a variety of office equipment and machinery such as telephone, computer, ID system, etc. Uses a variety of tools such as stapler, standard office tools, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as general office supplies, etc. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as office staff, department staff, playground supervisors and other City department staff as directed, and the general public. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs duties for the Parks and Recreation Department such as processing paperwork for Centralized Registration, answers and directs telephone calls accordingly, copies and interacts with playground supervisor’s as needed. Performs general administrative/office duties as required, including typing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, etc. Performs other related duties as required. May be required to report to work during emergency situations, including, but not limited to, city- wide declared emergencies

Communication Skills:
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving assignments and/or directions from supervisor.

Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated machines including telephone, computer, copier, calculator, etc. Must be physically able to exert up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a reasonable amount of force , push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Position involves mostly sedentary work, but may require walking or standing for brief periods of time.

Mental Involvement:
Requires the ability to apply rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral, written, schedule, mathematical or diagrammatic form. Requires the ability to make routine independent judgments in the absence of supervisor; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information and the ability to comprehend and implement basic office machinery functions

Minimum Training and Experience Qualifications:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent; supplemented by six to nine months previous experience and/or training involving reception work, switchboard operations, or general office work; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Interpersonal Relationship Skills:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate stress when confronted with an emergency or tight deadline. The worker is subject to tension as a regular, consistent part of the job.

Salary Requirements:
$8.7750 PER HOUR / 20 HOURS PER WEEK
