General Statement of Job:
Under general supervision, performs grounds maintenance for the maintenance and repair of the facilities and grounds. Work involves cutting grass and maintaining grounds of assigned buildings and/or areas. Reports to the assigned Foreman.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities (This is descriptive, not restrictive as to all tasks included in this position):
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs grounds maintenance of assigned areas such as weed eating and picking weeds, trimming with bush hog, shaping bushes, cutting grass, trimming trees, etc. Performs and assists in the installation, fabrication, repair and removal of street signs and traffic control devices. Performs minor street cleaning such as blowing streets and sidewalks clean with blower. Opens gardens. Picks up trash and debris. Provides assistance with assigned projects. Performs cleaning of assigned facilities such as changing light bulbs, checking bathrooms, checking for leaks, cleaning smoking area, etc. Provides directions to visitors when needed. Sets up for meetings at City Hall. Receives and/or reviews various records and report such as work orders, forms, verbal instructions, verbal input from citizens, and information from coworkers. Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as leave request forms, accident reports, progress reports, and verbal information from others. Refers to maps, safety procedures, instruction manuals, policy and procedure manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc. Operates a variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as a truck, lawn mower, weed eater, blower, chainsaw, trimmer, jackhammer, air-powered and manual post driver/puller, gas powered striping machine, etc. Uses a variety of tools such as screwdrivers, wire cutters, hammers, ratchets, landscaping tools, rakes, shovels, broom, mop, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as gas cans, garbage bags, primer and glue, weed eater parts, gloves, personal protective equipment, cleaning supplies, etc. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Foreman, coworkers, supervisors, other City departments, and the general public. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Removes seaweed from ponds. Takes down party / pavilion tents. Sets up tables and chairs for various events. Cleans drains. Performs post storm clean up. Performs other related duties as required. May be required to report to work during emergency situations, including, but not limited to, city-wide declared emergencies.

Communication Skills:
Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to follow verbal and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with persons of various ages, educational and cultural backgrounds.

Physical Requirements:
Tasks involve the regular, and at times sustained, performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderately heavy weight (up to 50 pounds).

Mental Involvement:
: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations. Requires the ability to learn and understand principles and techniques; to make routine independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information.

Minimum Training and Experience Qualifications:
Requires nine months or more of experience in facility/grounds maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess and maintain a valid Class “D” Louisiana Driver’s License.

Interpersonal Relationship Skills:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines. The worker may be subject to danger or risk to a moderate degree.

Salary Requirements:
$9.5851 PER HOUR / 40 HOURS PER WEEK
