General Statement of Job:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled work requiring manual labor and operating heavy equipment. Work involves operating and maintaining heavy equipment. Reports to the assigned Foreman.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities (This is descriptive, not restrictive as to all tasks included in this position):
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Equipment Operator II’s perform a variety of work according to assigned work and/or supervisor. Duties may include the following: Operates a variety of heavy equipment. Loads and unloads needed materials and supplies. Performs needed maintenance in assigned areas such as streets, etc. Hauls equipment. Maintains assigned equipment and machinery. Provides assistance with other crews, divisions, and/or departments. Receives and/or reviews various records and report such as verbal instructions from supervisor and work orders. Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as overtime sheet, work orders, and verbal information. Refers to street map, work order, manuals, policy and procedure manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc. Operates a variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as backhoe, bulldozer, bobcat, excavator, dump truck, etc. Uses a variety of tools such as shovel, hammer, cement float, elevation instrument, hand tools, jack hammer, air compressor, rakes, shovels, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as wood, sand, limestone, grease, cement, bricks, asphalt, etc. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Superintendent, Director, Foreman, Assistant Foreman, Crew Chiefs, coworkers, contractors, and the general public. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Provides assistance with hanging holiday decorations. Moves furniture. Provides assistance in setting up tents and temporary special events. Performs other related duties as required. Essential duty status position, will be required to report to work during emergency situations, including, but not limited to, city-wide declared emergencies

Communication Skills:
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving assignments and/or directions to co-workers or assistants. Includes receiving assignments and/or directions from supervisors.

Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate dump trucks, tractors, dresser loader, rollers, motor grader, back hoe, track hoe, carpentry, masonry and asphalt tools, and numerous other small tools and equipment. Must be able to exert in excess of one hundred pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of fifty pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of twenty pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of ten to one hundred pounds.

Mental Involvement:
Requires the ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.

Minimum Training and Experience Qualifications:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with one to two years of experience operating heavy construction and maintenance equipment and performing related skilled work; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have a valid Class “A” Louisiana driver's license.

Interpersonal Relationship Skills:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. The worker needs to relate to people in situations involving more than giving or receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress when confronted with an emergency.

Test Required:
Rating of Training and Experience . . . . . . Weighted 100%

Salary Requirements:
$15.2572 PER HOUR / 40 HOURS PER WEEK
