General Statement of Job:
Under general supervision, performs skilled electrical maintenance and repair work in the maintenance of facilities and related equipment and systems for the Public Works Department. Work involves electrical installation, maintenance, and repair of all buildings, facilities, street lights and traffic signals managed by the Public Works Department. Team leads the performance of work by Electrician Is and Electrician IIs. Reports to the Chief Electrician.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities (This is descriptive, not restrictive as to all tasks included in this position):
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Serves as lead person for Electricians and Traffic Signal Technicians; obtaining job assignments from the Chief Electrician; assigning and completing jobs; instructing employees; reviewing work; and reporting to the Chief Electrician on completion of jobs and any issues. Performs building maintenance such as installing new fixtures; replacing bulbs and ballasts; replacing outlets; resetting breakers; checking air conditioning, etc. Performs construction site work such demolishing and remodeling new and old electrical sites, installing electrical pipes, conduit etc. Assists the Traffic Signal Technician in the performance of traffic signal maintenance such as troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, programming, maintaining traffic signal cabinets, etc. Troubleshoots overhead and underground electrical work; installs new heads; rebuilds and repairs streetlights. Maintains, installs, and repairs generators. Provides assistance with special events such as setting up events, building equipment for correct operation, monitoring operations, etc. Examines jobs locations for correct method of work and necessary materials. Records completed work order tickets with description, time, materials, and work completed. Maintains shop and truck inventory, orders supplies, stocks shelves, pulls materials for jobs, etc. Performs after hour call outs on a rotating basis and as needed for emergencies or special events. Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as memorandums, work orders, emails, etc. Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as work orders, daily logs, meeting minutes, truck checklist, and traffic signal response forms. Refers to underground street light system, maps, wiring schematics, technical drawings, National Electric Code, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, instructions, policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications, reference texts, websites etc. Operates a variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as pickup truck, dump truck, boom/bucket truck, excavator, heavy equipment, fault locator, etc. Uses a variety of tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, nut driver set, wrench set, cordless drill, hole saw set, knock out set, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as wire, junction boxes and covers, duplex receptacles, switches, light bulbs, electrical panels, traffic lights, general office supplies, etc. Uses a variety of standard office tools, office supplies, and computer software such as word processing, spreadsheet, work order tracking system, email, etc. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Chief Electrician, Electrician I and II, Public Works and City employees, contractors, and the general public. \011 ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Picks up materials from vendors. Performs related duties as required. Essential duty status position, will be required to report to work during emergency situations, including, but not limited to, city-wide declared emergencies.

Communication Skills:
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving information and instructions from supervisor.

Physical Requirements:
Requires medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, stretching or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis, or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Mental Involvement:
Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral, written, diagrammatic or schedule form. Requires the ability to learn and understand relatively complex principles and techniques; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information.

Minimum Training and Experience Qualifications:
Requires a vocational school diploma supplemented by three or more years of electrical maintenance and repair experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess a valid Louisiana Class “A” commercial driver’s license.

Interpersonal Relationship Skills:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines. Worker may be subject to danger or risk to a moderate degree.

Test Required:
COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION - This class is announced on a competitive basis. The examination consists of a rating of education, training and experience.

Salary Requirements:
$16.0673 PER HOUR / 40 HOURS PER WEEK
