General Statement of Job:
Under general supervision, provides leadership and direction of subordinate crewmembers in the maintenance of parks and recreation facilities and grounds. Work involves ensuring employees are performing their duties; ensuring employees have the correct equipment and materials; ensuring safety policies and procedures are being followed. Reports to the Maintenance Superintendent.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities (This is descriptive, not restrictive as to all tasks included in this position):
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Ensures grass is cut at the parks daily, fence lines are trimmed, trashcans are emptied, and the bathrooms are cleaned. Organizes maintenance crews and custodians for daily job duties. Picks up and delivers supplies and time cards for work crews. Delivers payroll checks and sick leave and vacation paperwork for employees. Delivers mandatory to sign paperwork to employees; returns paperwork to the office. Inspects or directs supervisory inspections of schedule job sites to ensure compliance with all instructions, policies, and procedures. Monitors section attendance, leave requests, and issuance or recommendation for disciplinary actions. Assists employees by providing proper supervisor and/or actively participating in the performance of assigned duties when necessary to assure responsibilities of section is met. Assists the Superintendent in preparing daily work assignments for employees; determines number of personnel, equipment, and materials needed. Supervises special events preparation, set up, clean up, etc. during working hours, after hours, and weekends when assigned. Requisitions tools, equipment, and supplies following City and department purchasing and inventory procedures. Handles the responsibility for the accountability and care of assigned materials, equipment, tools, vehicles, and machinery. Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as written work, verbal instructions, verbal input from the public, daily work orders, maintenance request forms, etc. Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as completed work orders, completed evaluations, daily work orders, etc. Refers to equipment manuals, procedure manuals, description manual for jobs, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc. Operates a variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as bobcat, sod cutter, three wheeler, tractor, work van, riding mower, weed trimmer, blower, Uses a variety of tools such as tiller, rake, shovels, spreader, saw, clippers, hedge trimmer, screwdriver, pliers, power tools, electric testing meters, etc.; a variety of supplies such as toilet paper, bleach, soap, pesticides, weed killer, trash bags, fuel, building materials, plumbing supplies, electrical supplies, cleaning supplies, general office supplies, etc. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Maintenance Superintendent, Parks and Recreation Director, Parks and Recreation staff, work crews, and the general public. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Provides assistance with setting up events such as moving bleachers, delivering tables and chairs, etc. Performs maintenance of building such as vacuuming, mopping, cleaning windows, dusting, painting inside of buildings, repairing minor damage to walls, etc. Serves refreshments as events. Provides assistance with other work crews when needed. Picks up supplies to be delivered to parks and gyms. Performs other related duties as required.

Communication Skills:
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving assignments and/or directions to co-workers or assistants. Includes receiving assignments and/or directions from supervisors.

Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate a rubber tire backhoe, front end loader, tractor, roller, dump truck and grade; utilizes tools such as saws, drills, hammer, mowing and trenching tools, and hand tools. Must be able to exert in excess of one hundred pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of fifty pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of twenty pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of ten to one hundred pounds.

Mental Involvement:
Requires the ability to apply rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form. Requires the ability to apply influence systems in managing a crew; to learn and understand relatively complex principles and techniques; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information.

Minimum Training and Experience Qualifications:
Current, permanent Civil Service in the Department of Parks & Recreation, a high school diploma or equivalent with three to four years of experience in maintenance or construction; or any equivalent of training and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Must possess a valid Louisiana State Driver’s License.

Interpersonal Relationship Skills:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines. The worker may be subject to danger or risk to a moderate degree and to tension as a regular, consistent part of the job.

Test Required:
This class is announced on a competitive basis which will be based on a detailed rating of experience and training in the accounting field. Salary Requirements:
17.6884 PER HOUR / 40 HOURS PER WEEK
