General Statement of Job:
Under regular supervision, assists with supervising all play and recreational activities at assigned playgrounds. Work involves ensuring a safe and healthy place for children to practice sports; notifying children and parents of sporting events; and registering children for upcoming sports. Reports to the assigned supervisor.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities (This is descriptive, not restrictive as to all tasks included in this position):
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Oversees and supervises assigned area activities; monitors activities; ensures the safety by enforcing the rules and regulations; checks identification when necessary. May open facilities for program assigned to the facility; prepares the facility for use. Performs crowd control; manages disruptive fans. Completes and/or generates accident and incident reports and field reports when necessary. Provides assistance to other areas as needed or assigned. Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as personal demographics, schedules, registration forms, memorandums, verbal and written information, submitted registrations, rules, children and coach information, scorebooks, coaching clinics, etc. Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as scores and statistics, list of participants, accident and incident reports, maintenance reports, work orders, leave requests, schedules, rosters, score sheets, etc. Refers to rule book for sports, rules from department, master list, memorandums, rosters, schedules, telephone list, City policy, maps, policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc. Operates a variety of equipment and machinery such as personal computer, printer, copy machine, telephone, pitching machine, fax machine, scoreboard, etc. Uses a variety of tools such as tape measure, field chalker, dust mop, rakes, brooms, shovels, sweeper, dust mop, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as writing instruments, scorebooks, registration forms, paper, folders, cleaning supplies, chalk, dirt, general office supplies, etc.; and a variety of computer software such as Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook, etc. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Zone Manager, participants, coaches, umpires, parents, children, coworkers, and the general public. May perform the following duties if assigned to Playground: Coordinates leagues and use of playground; provides assistance in selecting coaches. Maintains statistics and scores. Issues and collects uniforms and equipment. Performs inventory control. Checks the facility; maintains assigned playgrounds and gyms by performing light cleaning and trash pick up. Informs the public of upcoming events. Registers participants. May perform the following duties if assigned to Gym: Provides assistance with running the league such as setting up game clock for games, coaching teams, keeping scores and reporting to supervisor progress. Answers the telephone and questions as needed. Assists with organizing teams and completing rosters; assists with coordinating practice times. Distributes and picks up equipment and uniforms. Checks for maintenance problems; submits work orders. Supervises and disciplines coaches and children when problems arise. Cleans spills in the gym; dust mops the floor. Works at other playgrounds or gyms as needed. Administers first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation when needed. Helps to work in the fields when needed. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs related duties as required.

Communication Skills:
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving assignments and/or direction from supervisor.

Physical Requirements:
Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate, though not constant, physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds).

Mental Involvement:
Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral, written, diagrammatic or schedule form. Requires the ability to learn and understand principles and techniques; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information.

Minimum Training and Experience Qualifications:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by nine to twelve months of experience in recreation programming, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid Louisiana’s Driver’s License.

Interpersonal Relationship Skills:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines. The worker may be subject to danger or risk to a slight degree.

Test Required:
COMPETITIVE - THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF A RATING OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE BASED ON THE INFORMATION SUPPLIED BY THE APPLICANT. Salary Requirements:
$8.775 PER HOUR / 20 HOURS PER WEEK
